I’ve biked to work two times now. It’s been bad weather so haven’t been able to use the bike as I wanted. Well it arrived last Thursday I did use it on Friday, Monday and Tuesday was rainy, did bike yesterday and today I had to take the car because I had to bring some stuff back and forth…
Anyway…driving to work I always get stressed or angry. I don’t honk or pass people like a maniac but sometimes I do shout out loud by myself (or sometimes when my girlfriend is with me). You know when it’s everyone else’s fault you started driving 5 minutes later than usually and then every red light hits you and you’re like: “OH my god! Thanks to YOU I missed the green light…” Or “HOW can a person drive 79km/h when it’s 80km/h!!!”.
I’m sure almost everyone can say they felt like this at some point. It doesen’t even matter who drives the other car it’s always the “typical slow driver”. “Of course a woman”, “Of course an old man”, “Of course a … guy with sunglasses”…whatever. Someone says: but hey leave home earlier? and you’re like WTF I have carefully counted my every turn to make it to work exactly at 9am when I’m supposed to!
Ok so when you’re biking to work, or anywhere, there isn’t a lot of traffic. You’re on your own! If you’re late it’s because you didn’t go up that hill fast enough or you didn’t get up early enough. It’s a pretty good feeling competing against yourself. I don’t get angry at me? I don’t shout out loud to myself when I’m on the bike.. I bite my teeth together and go faster up that hill! I know there’s downhill afterwards to I can’t wait to get that reward to chill and feel the wind go by! According to Sportstracker it’s 22,6km from my house to my workplace and it takes about 50minutes for me to go there by bike. It takes me about 20min by car. But these 22,6km aren’t hard on bike. It is actually a great day to start the day. Only thing bad about it is getting up 45min earlier than I would when going by car. But during those 50 min on the car only racing against time by myself really gets my thoughts going! When I’m in my “road rage” mode all I can think of is the car in front of me. Why is it so hard to relax when driving in traffic? I don’t always hate the car in front of me though… it’s really only when I’m late myself. I find I’m in a better mood and more energetic when I go by bike though. By bike I also save money!
There is a saying that goes something like:
“Driving a car burns money and makes you fat, going by bike saves money and burns fat!”
To this I should add that It’s also good for the environment! So hopefully I get more sunny days so I get to use my bike more!
Stay cool and be safe on the road!
Usually I wear sunglasses and a helmet.
My bike arrived today from the UK! Already all psyched up to go home and put it together and test-drive it! Yupp I bought a bike from abroad without testing it! But hey…It has broken a record to be the fastest bike around the world! I think it’ll suit me pretty well as I also like to travel, beeing I’m up to 34/35? coutries already. (My mom is behing but one or two and when she getts the same amount it’s time to travel again 😉
It’s a Genesis – Croix de Fer..Anyone know it? Probably should have asked before ordering it but when you see something you really want you go for it and you get it! No matter what people say!
So anyhow today I had to wake my girlfriend up, after her beeing on a nightshift at the hospital, and get her to open the door for the guy delivering the bike. Couldn’t wait for her to take a picture of the package that’s how psyched up I am! To make it clear how psyched I am look at the following link:
I’m Pumped Up Psyched!!
So…Hopefully I’ll get the bike working by tomorrow and be able to ride it to work, which is about 24km each way. I’ll be posting about the ride hopefully tomorrow or after a few days!
So I’ve decided to by a bike! I just bought a bike actually but now i want one that I can compete with in triathlons and also train with all year round. I have no idea which one to get. What’s a cyclocross bike? What’s the difference between that one and a road bike? Do I even need a special triathlon bike? Which ones are allowed to be used competing? I’ve read a few forums but they tend so say different things! It doesen’t have to be too expensive but good enough for my needs. So now I need help from anyone who knows anything about bikes or someone who has competed in a triathlon!
What bike should I get and where can I buy one?
Also wondering about the rest of the thing you need for a triathlon. How about wetsuits? Is there something you can wear through the whole race so you don’t have to change? how about shoes? Bike shoes or normal shoes? Goggles? What triathlons are fun/worth going to?
Anyway we signed up for Tough Viking in Helsinki for 6.9.2014! And got a bunch of friends to go too! It’s going to be lots of fun! A lot of fun obstacles in the way while running for 12km can’t be anything but fun can it? 🙂 It’ll be a fun experience for us to work as a team and getting past challenges. We’re really not competing agains anyone or the clock but just going for it to enjoy the experience and have a great time doing it! In Helsinki we’re goint to be about 10people which will be a great warm up for Strong Viking that My girlfriend and I signed up for which is held in Amsterdam 25.10.2014! There we will be just the two of us so it’ll be whole new experience!
Our T-shirts for Tough Viking arrived two days ago!
If anyone wants to go to this event feel free to join our team!
Take care and happy MIDSUMMER!!
